Coral-Lynn’s Brain Injury Survivor Story

Coral-Lynn’s Brain Injury Survivor Story

Hi there, my name is Coral-Lynn and I am 20 years old. My story begins back in 1999 when I was 2 1/2 years old where I fell out of a second story window.

After the fall I was in the hospital for nearly 2 months and had to start from the beginning as I wasn’t even able to hold my head up like a newborn. I had to learn how to walk and talk all over again. My accident (brain injury) happened at the end of May 99 and my 3rd birthday was that October. The doctors told my parents that I probably wasn’t going to be walking by my 3rd birthday and I was, but holding on to things.

Two years later I started school and enjoyed going to school. Once I hit grade 4 and 5 things changed, people noticed my maturity level was a bit behind and I started getting bullied daily. I lost all my friends and spent most days alone.

Once grade 10 hit, I had enough with being bullied and stood up. Eventually I made friends, but was so isolated it took me a long time to open up.

Graduated high school and now about to graduate college and planning to go to university. I’m unstoppable. From my accident (brain injury) I have mobility limitations like walking with a limp and only having use of my left hand. I am doing amazing. I enjoy writing and in school to become a child and youth care worker.
